Project 1

Due October 19th.

Note this project is adapted from one developed by Dr. Tim Howard, A Technology Assisted Approach to Solving Equations. Dr. Howard developed this project for maple.

This assignment should be completed outside of class time.

You may work with one partner, but no more; if you do work with a partner, you should submit a single assignment for the two of you.

 

Be sure to save your project periodically (and before you quit Scientific Notebook) by clicking on the ''File'' menu and selecting ''Save''. ALWAYS SAVE YOUR WORK BEFORE PRINTING.

When you've completed the problems, print out the project and submit that for your assignment.

The first line of your printed output should read:

Your Name(s) Math 1111 Project 1 Fall Semester 1999

Those written by hand will not be accepted.

           

Given below are five equations. For each equation, follow these steps:

           

(i). solve the given equation using the ''solve'' command in Scientific Notebook

(ii). graph the corresponding function

(iii). check to see that your plot range settings are appropriate

(iv). on the printout of your graph, circle the points corresponding to the answers obtained in step (i)

(v). on your printout, clearly indicate your answers for each step by circling or otherwise highlighting them, and label each problem number.  Also, highlight the vertex for problem 2.
